Shopping and the arrival of a sister!

Back to the shops again today, to replace those items in our sparse wardrobe that have fallen to pieces from over use! Tammy also required some non-hippy clothes so that she might look more presentable upon arrival in South Africa - very considerate! I think I'll just rock up at Heathrow looking like a hippy - sorry for the embarrassment Mum and Dad :-) After a much needed stock up in Boots (what an amazing shop!), we went our separate ways. Tam headed back to the hostel for an afternoon of chilling out, and I headed to the airport to pick up my sister, Sarah - very exciting!!! And I managed to successfully navigate the underground and railway systems by myself, despite being the only Westerner on the train and therefore being stared at a lot!

We were reunited successfully and without any drama and then jumped in a taxi for the hour long journey home. At this point you might be thinking that Bangkok airport is miles outside town, and it is outside town, but it only takes 15 minutes on the train. It's the traffic that drags out the journey - I have never seen anything like it!!!

Anyway, after a quick freshen up we headed out to see the sights of Khao San Road, the main backpacker strip of Bangkok. Lots of stalls, lots of food, lots of drink, and bars that actually compete with each other over who can play the loudest music! We spent a good few hours soaking up the sights, whilst Sarah tried desperately hard to overcome the culture shock - I suppose we did rather throw her in at the deep end!!

By 10pm we were, unfortunately, exhausted. So we headed back to the hostel. Now it's definitely time for bed as we have an early start in the morning!!! Eeekk!
